RE: Recommended Park in Moab

The advantage of Canyonlands is that it's walking distance to groceries and restaurants and you're assured of shade.

RE: US 97 Biggs Bridge

Thanks for the info. Thought the work was done and the bridge was open for good.

RE: camping in northwest USA

I also recommend Yellowstone, but at that time of the year, be prepared for the possibility of snow. And don't miss Craters of the Moon. It's terribly hot in summer but should be great in the spring. If concerned or just curious, you can check out their websites for information regarding average temps.

RE: OREGON COAST

I recommend the maritime museum and the Astor column in Astoria, Fort Clatsop which is nearby, the Hatfield Science Center in Newport and the Sea Lion Caves further south.

RE: TAKE NOTE!! Jackson/Snake River KOA- Wyoming

Come on guys. Every campground is different as are the campers and their expectations.

RE: Hwy 199 Grants Pass to Crescent City

Agree that it is very scenic, but you need to pay close attention at times. And east to west is probably less problematic than west to east. :-)

RE: I-5 in January

Have traveled I-5 many winters and faced treacherous ice and snow on roadway only twice. Once in Weed, Ca at night and once going over the grapevine out of LA also in the evening. Just watch the weather predictions, and if a storm comes in, hole up for a while. It won't be long. Since it's the major route north and south, the roads are cleared quickly. But if the truckers stop, be sure you do, too. The coastal route avoids most of the mountains, but is often very icy, and you have to be careful where you cross back over.

RE: Salt Lake to Portland

Use 84 and take advantage of the Oregon Trail stops. Great museums and historic places.

RE: Need things to do and see in Gold Beach OR

"Old Guy" - I think you've confused two different places, the Trees of Mystery in N. California, and the Vortex House in Gold Hill off I5 in Oregon. BTW, I agree with your pronunciation of Oregon. :-) As for the original post, I would second a jet boat/mail boat tours.

RE: camping around badlands sd

I highly recommend the Interior KOA because it has lots of shade, and shade is something you really need in summer and won't find within the park.

RE: San Lorenzo Cnty Park, King City, CA

I totally agree. Great place. Just hope it stays "undiscovered."

RE: flat screen tv, good, fair, or so-so???????

Check out the Philips LCDs. Their warranty service is top-notch. We had a 20" picture tube set that went out on us, and because they had no 20" in stock, they replaced it with a 19" Widescreen LCD (no cost). Beautiful picture and sound, and I'm considering buying another for the MH. Whatever you consider, go online and do a search with the make and model number. You'll find user reviews and prices for both new and refurbished. Great way to help in making a decision. :-)

RE: 2009 on board TV Requirenents

I think the easiest approach is to purchase an LCD tv with analog pass through and not worry about a converter. That way, you're covered no matter what.

RE: Size Debate for new rv owner

Go to the state and national park websites, and you'll often find the restrictions listed, sometimes by individual site #. In my own expereience, I never had any trouble at 29' and at 31', there have only been a few problems. I notice, though, that quite a few public parks begin restricting the length of rigs over 31'.

RE: Benbow Valley RV Resort / Garbervillle California

We also have enjoyed staying at Benbow. It's a bit pricey, but I enjoy the quiet and LOL the doggie "wash." :-)

RE: California Highway 1 from Santa Cruz to Ventura

Have to agree with previous posters. I, too, have sworn never to drive this stretch of road again. The last time I did, it was in a 23' MH and wasn't worth the stress.

RE: Oregon in September

Please relax about the resevations. First, not all of the state parks even take reservations. Second, despite what some may say, the state parks do not completely fill up even on the weekends in September. Third, just remember that there are many, many nice private RV parks to choose from also. So relax and have fun!

RE: Oregon in September

I agree with the suggestion to see Crater Lake first. You wouldn't want to miss it because of an early snow. And don't worry about resevations. There are plenty of parks to choose from, both public and private. Enjoy!

RE: Class A Hot Water Heater Survey?

Turn it on for evening dishes. Then off after. Turn it on again in the morning for shower. Off after, and it stays hot all day.
